WHAT IS THE AMERICAN DEVELOPMENT MODEL

The American Development Model (ADM) is a joint effort between the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee and USRowing to apply the principles of long-term athlete development in a way that resonates with the culture of sports in the United States. By implementing the ADM, coaches and rowing programs can responsibly maximize their athletes’ life-long potential and transform the experience with our sport for future generations.

ADM CORE PRINCIPLES

  1. Universal access to create opportunity for all athletes
  2. Developmentally-appropriate activities that emphasize motor and foundational skill development
  3. A fun, engaging, and challenging environment
  4. Quality coaching at all levels

ADM GOALS

  • Grow the general athlete population and the pool of elite athletes for selecting future U.S. Olympians and Paralympians
  • Develop fundamental skills that transfer across sports
  • Provide appropriate avenues to fulfill an individual’s athletic potential
  • Create a generation of life-long athletes that love sport and physical activity, and transfer that passion to the next generation
